I Don’t Want to Write!
Written by Ryu Hoseon, Illustrated by Chang Sunhwan
Tori is so much less fun to write. His arm aches like it's going to fall off and his fingers feel like they're going to cramp. But Tori has a reason to write. There is something really important that needs to be written down. What is the message Tori wants to tell, even if he doesn't like writing? As an elementary school teacher for nearly 20 years, author Ryu Hoseon has been able to recognize children's problems before anyone else. She realized that many first graders dislike writing, so she wrote this story to help them enjoy writing themselves.

Synopsis
Tori doesn't like to read and write. But his mom insists that he needs to learn to read and write because he is going to start elementary school next year. Even the pharmacist at the drugstore agrees with his mom and says that Tori can only get vitamin candies if he can write his name on a paper. Why does he have to write his name to get the candies? Tori is fed up with everything. His mom tells him that he can't go to elementary school if he can't read. Tori is shocked to hear this and decides that he must learn to read to get in. Tori gives up playing with the sky, clouds, trees, and ants to learn to read. Once he can read, he thinks everything is complete. But his mother tells him that he must now learn to write. Writing is much harder than reading. Mom encourages Tori, who wants to give up because the letters don't flow freely. His mom tells Tori that sometimes the same thing feels different when spoken and written, and that the really important messages can be conveyed better in writing than in speaking.
After practicing so hard, Tori wakes up alone one night and writes two letters. The first is to Santa Claus. He asks Santa to deliver a letter to his grandmother, whom he hasn't seen in over a year. Then he writes a letter to his grandmother, who has since passed away. He tells that he wants to be praised for learning to read and write and asks her to recognize him when he grows up.
