I Live Next Door to You
Written by Sung Dong-hyuk, Illustrated by Daan
The protagonist, who has spent most of their life in a hospital room due to a congenital illness, gazes at the mountain outside the window one day. They mention to a friend that they have never climbed a mountain before.
Remembering those words, seven friends come together. One day, they carry the protagonist up the mountain in an aluminum carrier, bringing along emergency medical equipment and a camera. Thanks to these friends who made the impossible possible, the protagonist experiences a whole new world and realizes that their life is not just their own but is sustained by the people who walk alongside them.
Grateful for the friends who have always been their "next-door neighbors," the protagonist decides to become a "next-door neighbor" for them as well.
This picture book is based on the autobiographical story of poet Seong Dong-hyuk and inspired by his poem of the same title.
