Synopsis
On a small star far away in space, Peol the alien and Ttokttok the robot live. One day, while Peol is bored, Ttokttok shows Peol an invitation. It’s from a creature from Earth, with a picture and a message inviting them to come play. The picture shows only the entrance to a small cave. Peol and Ttokttok travel to Earth to find the invitation’s sender.
When they arrive at the mudflats in Korea, Peol and Ttokttok learn about the ecology of the mudflats. Information about what mudflats are, why they need to be preserved, and what animals and plants live in them accompanies the adventures of these space friends. As they explore the ecology of the mudflats, two space friends realize that the picture on the invitation is a cave where benthic organisms live. After exploring the cave, they meet the owner of the invitation and take a photo with several creatures of the mudflats. There is an appendix at the end of the story with more information about tidal mudflats.
This book is a comprehensive introduction to mudflats. This book is very different from most of the existing educational picture books about marine ecosystems, which are mainly realistic illustrations, as it lovingly illustrates the mudflats and the creatures that live there in bright colors.
