Star Mart Hamster Escape
Written by Bang Min-gyeong, Illustrated by Yoon Jeongmi
Danbi wants to adopt a pet, but her mom opposes it. Instead, she tries to buy a toy hamster, Hamzirang, but she doesn’t have enough pocket money. When she goes to the store with her mom, she sees living hamsters that are much cheaper than Hamzirang. Then she hears a small voice from the cage. “Please open the door.” Danbi hears it and lets the hamsters out of the cage. She walks around the supermarket with four hamsters in her pocket. Can they escape from the supermarket? This book teaches that it is more fun to interact and play with living creatures than to consume products.

Synopsis
Danbi wants to have a pet, but her mother doesn’t allow it. Instead of a live animal, Danbi turns her attention to Hamzirang, an AI hamster toy. After begging her mom to buy it, she finally gets permission to use her pocket money. But the money she has saved in her piggy bank isn’t enough.
Danbi is depressed because she can’t buy Hamzirang. Her mom asks her to go to the Star Mart. Danbi likes the supermarket more than the playground or the bookstore. At that time, Star Mart is holding an event where the winner of the quiz will get a free Hamzirang. Danbi is excited to participate in the quiz, but she fails. As she waits for her mom in the pet shop, she sees four real hamsters. Danbi realizes that she can buy a living hamster with the same money as the two packs of snacks. Just then, the hamster in the cage speaks to Danbi. “Please open the door.” Danbi unconsciously lets the four hamsters out of the cage.
Danby goes on an adventure with four hamsters. The hamsters try cheese and almonds in the tasting section and ride the ceiling fan like a merry-go-round. Soon the supermarket staff realizes that the hamsters are missing and chases them, but Danbi and the hamsters escape safely. Danbi arrives at the locker where the path to the hamster village is hidden. The hamsters thank her and leave, saying that they will go to her house next time. Danbi’s mom scolds her for letting the hamsters go free, but Danbi feels good about it.
